Happy New Year, WSI members and water media artists. Each new year always makes me uncomfortable because it forces me to evaluate myself and what I did/did not do or did not do well in the previous year and make some decisions about what to do better in the coming year. I don't call these "resolutions." I call them "think abouts." My dad used to
Greetings, WSI members and friends. Let me begin by wishing you the happiest of holidays. I celebrate Christmas, but whether you celebrate Christmas or Hanukah or Kwanza, or you follow another faith path and just celebrate with the rest of us at this time of year, I wish you the very best joys of the season and a new year full of good surprises. Ah, September! Warm, sunny days. Cool nights. A month that makes me glad I live in the Midwest. There are other reasons why I'm glad I live here, too: no hurricanes named Florence or Hugo; enough rain that--as least so far--prevents wildfires; the lovely changing of the seasons with yellow ochres and scarlets and crimsons and sap greens and beautiful deep blues and orchids entering
Some final thoughts on Juried Shows and Competition: One of my WSI friends, an excellent artist, enters many juried shows and usually/often wins an award. He mentioned to me that he didn't view juried shows as competitions--and I'm sure he doesn't because he's THAT good. However, I believe that juried shows ARE competitions because when one places oneself in a position where he/she is
